On May 22, Leornardo DiCaprio continued promoting ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘ while attending the press conference and photocall in Cannes. He was joined by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Quentin Tarantino.

Tarantino’s new film Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and some members of the audience walked away with a few questions. Specifically, why didn’t actress Margot Robbie have many speaking lines?

The film, which revolves around Hollywood during the Manson Family era and the August 1969 murder of the actress Sharon Tate, who Robbie plays, runs 2 hours and 40 minutes. However, according to Vulture, the Oscar-winning actress “has relatively few lines of dialogue in the film… Robbie’s character is often pointedly silent in the film, even during some of her key scenes.”

The silence is pointed enough that New York Times reporter Farah Nayeri took a moment at a press conference to ask the actor and director about what “must have been a deliberate choice.” Tarantino was not having it, though. “I just reject your hypotheses,” he replied, and according to the reporter, “said no more.”

Robbie gave a more diplomatic and longer response, telling the reporter that, “I think the moments that I got onscreen gave an opportunity to honor Sharon and her lightness. I don’t think it was intended to delve deeper.”

On May 21, Leonardo DiCaprio joined Quentin Tarantino, Daniela Pick, David Heyman, Shannon McIntosh, Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt to attend the premiere of their upcoming movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that happened during the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

The crowd that was  gave the film a seven-minute standing ovation at the end of one of the most anticipated screenings at the prestigious festival in recent years.

Thank you for being such a fantastic audience for the first time we’ve ever showed it to an audience,” Tarantino told the crowd after the screening in very brief remarks, thanking the studio, producers, cast and crew.

This is Tarantino’s ninth and most recent film in Cannes since Inglourious Basterds in 2009. He won the Palme d’Or 25 years ago for Pulp Fiction.

The plot revolves around TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), who make their way around an industry in 1969 Los Angeles they hardly recognize anymore. It is Tarantino’s tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age. Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry and Margaret Qualley lead the loaded ensemble cast.

The famed director is honored at the Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit. DiCaprio, who’s appeared in five Scorsese films including “Shutter Island,” ”The Departed,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street,” also went back to his youth to describe the influence Scorsese, 76, had on him.

He told the audience how when he was just 15, and starting his journey as an actor, his father took him to a movie theater for inspiration.

He pointed at the screen, and as the reels of ‘Goodfellas’ began to spin, he said, ‘This is the epitome of modern filmmaking,’DiCaprio recounted. “‘This is someone who you may be lucky enough one day to work with, and when it comes to directors, Martin Scorsese is where the bar is set.‘”

The actor added that from that moment, “I made it a goal, I made it a relentless ambition to work alongside the master we’re celebrating here tonight.” The pair is about to start on its sixth collaboration, the crime thriller “Killers of the Flower Moon.

DiCaprio also spoke of Scorsese as a lifelong teacher, from his constant on-set references to film history to his efforts to restore and preserve old films with The Film Foundation, which he founded in 1990.

No one on earth has so relentlessly pioneered the salvation of movie history with such commitment the way Martin Scorsese has,DiCaprio said.
